Lila (Costello) Holmes of Hemmingford, Quebec, passed peacefully on December 22, 2022, at the age of 89. Lila is predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, James “Roy” Holmes. Lila is survived and cherished by her four
sons Jim (Carole Kaufman), John (Carol Bujeau), Gerry (Aline Dauphinais) and Joe (Nancy Woolmer); grandchildren, Patrick (Megan) and Sean Holmes, Jordan and Kayla Holmes, Richard and Johanne Dauphinais, Megan and Christian Holmes; great grandchildren, Donna, Billy and Marilyn Dauphinais, her nephews, Michael (Janet) and Patrick (Tamara) Tobin, Matthew (Sarah) Copeland, and niece Elizabeth Holmes (Scott), and her beloved cat Maggie.
She was pre-deceased by her sister Catherine Tobin and Mary Copeland, her sister-in-law Geraldine Holmes, her brother-in-law Roger Tobin, Richard Copeland, Stewart and John Holmes, nephews Richard, John and Peter Copeland, and beloved niece Mary Catherine Tobin (Floyd).
Lila was born in Saint-Chrysostome, Quebec on December 6, 1933, to her parents James and Anna-Mae Costello. Lila and Roy were married in 1953 and shortly after they moved to Hemmingford where they raised their children. Lila worked for 25 years at the Hemmingford Golf Club and was active in many local organizations, notably the Cercle Des Fermiers. Lila will be remembered for her beautiful work in quilting, knitting, and sewing. Her cooking, baking and hosting skills contributed to family cherished memories of her large family dinners and parties making each person feel special. She is remembered as a second mother to many.
A memorial mass for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at St. Romain Catholic Church in Hemmingford at 11:00. The family will be present at the church from 10:00 to 11:00.
