Garry Bickes 1943-2023

Leonard Laplante dit :

To the Bickes family,

I have known Garry for over 65 years as we both attended Mooers Central School. He was a true friend. I have shared meals at Garry’s parents house – I last saw Garry and his wife in 2010 at my 50th anniversary of my graduation in Rouses Point N.Y.
He will be missed. He and Jean were very good people.
My sincere condolences to all family members.

Garry was my boss for several years, I will always remember him as being a hard person but a fair one. He protected me on the job and i always will remember him.

Sally Kyle dit :

Garry was always cheerful and always had time to stop and chat. We bought honey from Garry and always looked forward to fall when my Mom would buy 4 4lb tins of honey, and we’d get a square of combed honey as a treat. I also carpooled with Garry from Hemmingford to Montreal, for almost 13 years….he was a great driver and storyteller. My sincere sympathies to Glenn and Kevin and your families, and to Judy and your family.

Karen Tripp dit :

When I was a teenager in the mid-70s, Garry started calling for teen and family square dance clubs in Hemmingford and Lacolle (where I’m from). Our clubs used to visit each other and we kids all made friends through the activity, and many of us have stayed in touch over the years. God bless him for starting those clubs, and introducing us to a worldwide activity that grew exponentially over the years and around the world. I remember his sons Glenn and Kevin, and express my sympathy to them. He brought Jeannie to my father’s funeral in January 2016, and I appreciated that so much. I hadn’t seen him in years. May the angels receive him with open arms, and may he rest in peace. Condolences from Karen Tripp (nee Van Vliet)

Michel Fortin dit :

Kevin, we have been just informed of Garry passing. We all know that one day life stops for each one of us. Just a few words although sincere, will not change this sad event. Nevertheless, we are offering our deepest compassion to all of your family.
We share your grief but can not find words to express completely.

In friendship.

My condolences to the family. I(Markene) was part if Garry’s carpool for eight months, yeats ago. That’s how I learned to appreciate country music. I could prime him with a question after getting off Champlain Bridge and he could keep the conversation going for the ride home. I also participated in the square dance lessons he had when I was a teenager. He was a very talented man and will be missed.

K. Scott Van Vliet dit :

I remember the fun times square dancing with him. He opened a new door of fun that got us to travel and meet new people and enjoy life.
I also visited with him when he came out west and saw Edith in Mission, BC.. I shared red wine with him and Jeannie. Good memories of them both and of the two boys Kevin and Glen in the early days. I send peaceful thoughts to you at this time.

Heather Mackenzie dit :

Kevin, Christine, and to your family,
My condolences to all of you. If you recall, the last time I was at Giggz, Gary was there, and we talked at length, mostly about his US travels, and travel, a subject that is dear to me. I was surprised and saddened to learn about his passing. My thoughts are with you. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet and chat with him.
