Sheelagh Ann Myers 1938-2022

Sheelagh passed away peacefully on December 12, 2022 after a three-year stay in long-term care. Born in Montreal, Sheelagh was the oldest of the four children of Clara McCubbin and Leslie Myers. She is survived by her sister Joan (late Wayne), brother Robert (Linda), and brother John (Diane) who treasure their memories of her. She married Grant Van Vliet in 1958 and they had four children: Karen Tripp (Trevor), Keith Scott, Kevin, Kim Allinson (Ken), and a grandson Stephen. She loved them with all her heart. She was blessed with 11 nieces and nephews who stole her heart: Derek (Joanne), Keith, Scott (Robin), Johanna (Michael), Luke, Craig, Alison, Jessica, Harrison, Kenny, and Mac.
Sheelagh loved her family, Christmas, music, dancing, knitting, dogs, camping, travelling and babies.  She took great pleasure in giving generously to people in need.

A sincere thank you to the team at CHSLD Sutton, Physiotherapie S.Mobile and massage therapist Nancy Dover for taking such good care of her for the past three years.

Sheelagh is likely dancing once again, singing songs of joy and watching over all of us. Her love will live forever in our hearts.

The family will have a private gathering at a later date.

We were so sorry for the loss of your mother Karen. Everyone should be blessed with a daughter like you who stayed in your mother’s life every day! Your many visits and online links were something special! She is indeed dancing again!!!

Our condolences

My sincerest condolences to Joan, Robert and John on the passing of your sister and to Karen, Scott, Kevin and Kim. I have wonderful memories of Sheelagh and Grant and their family at their home in Lacolle. We were three young guys, friends of Robert from Montreal East who were always up for an adventure and always found a welcome at Sheelagh’s house. I remember how warmly we were welcomed despite the uproar we caused. Sheelagh was full of fun, kind, patient and “big-sisterly”, ready to dispense wise advice to us when we should have been acting our age. I share your sadness at her passing.

Our condolences

My sincere sympathies to Karen, Keith, Kevin, Kim and family. I have wonderful memories of when I was younger going to her home, and she treated me just like one of her own. I remember that one time when I was sleeping over and I was on the top bunk bed, and Karen was on the bottom. I got so scared because I kept hearing something and saw shadows. Sheelagh came to calm me down and explained it was the tree branches hitting the window and the way the moon was reflexing, I then was able to sleep. I remember the time they ordered pizza, what a treat that was! I never forgot that as it was the first time I had pizza from a restaurant. I seen Sheelagh about 4 years or so ago, at the residence in St Bernard de Lacolle, she hadn’t changed, she looked the same. Wonderful memories, Thank you for them. R.I.P.
