Gisela Hess 1946-2025

In loving memory of Gisela Hess, Hemmingford, Quebec

It is with great sadness we announce that Gisela left us unexpectedly on March 12, 2025 at the age of 78.   She is the eldest daughter of the late Theresia and Johann Hess, was born August 9, 1946  in Mosbach, Germany and immigrated with her parents to Canada at a young age.   She will be fondly remembered by her family Margaret (Bob), Virginia, Jonathan (Faith), nieces, nephew, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends and colleagues she worked and volunteered with.

Throughout her life, Gisela had an adventurous soul and a heart of gold.   Whether it was travelling the world or giving time for the less fortunate; she wanted to help others.  She loved volunteering in winter at Roxham Road for those looking for a better life or working at the Hemmingford second hand shop.  She never waivered with helping those in need.    In her earlier years, she worked as a psychiatric nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal, and up until her passing, still maintained close friendships with co-workers.

Gisela never slowed down in her retirement years.  She travelled extensively with friends and was not afraid of getting off the beaten path.  She was looking forward to her upcoming trip to Madagascar.   She was learning Spanish to better communicate on her future travels and with the agricultural workers coming into the Hemmingford second hand shop.

She had an unwavering love of animals.  This was demonstrated by the cats and dogs she accepted into her home and loved over the years.  Her sense of humor was endless and she loved being with friends and family for a good meal, glass of wine and a piece of cake.

Rest in peace Gisela.  You will be missed.  You left us too soon with too many things still to do on your list.  You will always be remembered for your kind heart and vibrant personality.  You saw the good in those you met and were quick to be open, welcoming, and lend a helping hand.   God bless you.

If you wish to make a gesture in Gisela’s memory, please consider a donation to your local animal shelter.
