Thelma Millicent Kearns (née Goodwin) 1920-2021

C’est avec une profonde tristesse que nous vous annonçons le décès de Thelma Millicent Kearns (née Goodwin) de Hemmingford, à l’âge de 100 ans et 9 mois. Fille de feu George E. Goodwin et de feu Jean Elizabeth Isbister de Régina, Saskatchewan. Elle était l’épouse de feu W. Donald Kearns. Elle est prédécédée de sa soeur feu Marie Goodwin Hamersley et sa nièce feu Elizabeth Hamersley Thompson.

Née le 13 juillet 1920 à Régina, Thelma déménage à Montréal en 1941, elle est  par la suite diplomée en comptabilité de l’université McGill. Elle a été la première femme comptable chez Peat Marwick & Mitchell et à travaillé pendant 42 ans pour Edward Lumley Canada , jusqu’à sa retraite en 1990. Elle et son mari W. Donald Kearns s’installe à Hemmingford en 1971, ou ils ont élevé des chiens pure races et du boeuf Hereford.   Thelma a eu la chance d’habitée sa grande maison de pierre jusqu’à ses 98 ans avec l’aide d’amis proches et celle des soins à domicile du C.L.S.C. Pendant plusieurs années, Thelma a été trésorière du Club de Scout et membre active de l’institut des femmes de Hemmingford.

Après un courageux combat contre la pneumonie, Thelma est décédée paisiblement au CHSLD de Ormstown, le 28 mars 2021. Ses ami(e)s garderont une précieux souvenir d’elle.

Une cérémonie à la mémoire de Thelma aura lieu, au Cimetière Protestant de Hemmingford, le samedi 31 juillet 2021  à 14h.

Au lieu de fleurs, des dons à Les Dames Auxiliaires de l’Hôpital Barrie Memorial seraient appréciés.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thelma Millicent Kearns (née Goodwin), of Hemmingford, at the age 100 years and 9 months.  Daughter of the late George E. Goodwin and the late Jean Elizabeth Isbister of Regina, Saskatchewan.  Wife of the late W. Donald Kearns. Predeceased by her sister, the late Marie Goodwin Hamersley and niece, the late Elizabeth Hamersley Thompson.

Born in Regina on July 13, 1920, Thelma moved to Montreal in 1941 and obtained her accounting degree from McGill University.  She was the first female accountant at Peat Marwick & Mitchell and was comptroller at Edward Lumley Canada for 42 years, until she retired in 1990.  She and husband W. Donald Kearns settled in Hemmingford in 1971, where they raised purebred dogs and Hereford cattle.  Thelma continued to live in the large stone house well into her 98th year, in later years with the help of close friends and C.L.S.C. homecare.  For several years, Thelma was treasurer of the local Boys Scout troop and an active member of the Hemmingford branch of the Women’s Institute.

After  courageous battles  with pneumonia, Thelma passed away peacefully on March 28, 2021 at the CHSLD in Ormstown.  She will be fondly remembered by her close circle of friends.

A memorial service will be held on, Saturday, July 31 2021 at 2:p.m. at the Hemmingford Protestant Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Women’s Auxiliary of the Barrie Memorial Hospital would be appreciated.
